Duxbury was originally inhabited by Wampanoag indians. In 1620, pilgrims settled Plymouth Colony and soon after the pilgrims spread along the Massachusetts coast, including Duxbury. Some of the most influential leaders in history were Myles Standish, who has a monument here in town, William Brewster, and John Alden. Later, due to Duxbury's position on the water, it became a prominent shipping town.
